Mahler is the composer of the hour. I can't think of another composer who is so frequently played and recorded, and so well. It's not surprising really. His symphonies are the most gratifying to play--difficult but not impossible, and everyone gets something rewarding to do-- while audiences can't seem to get enough of them.
